Tallinn City Centre administration announced a contest for the spruces and firs to become the representative Christmas tree installed on the Town Hall Square Christmas market.
The time to nominate trees for candidates to Tallinn Christmas tree goes on until the end of October. A special committee of experts will choose the winning tree and the winner will be announced in November just before the tree is brought to the Town Hall Square. After that, preparations for the opening of the Christmas market will begin.
"We started the search for Tallinn’s most important Christmas tree a few weeks ago and proposals have already been received, but we have not yet found the most suitable, evenly dense and full-bodied one," said Monika Haukanõmm, City Centre Governor. When making a choice, the tree's appearance, price and distance from Tallinn is considered. The tree must be at least 15 meters high, powerful and evenly dense, grow in an accessible place no further than 150 km from Tallinn.
"If someone has noticed a majestic spruce somewhere and can give an exact address, it can be enough. Contacting the landowner and negotiations can be left to us!” Haukanõmm added. "We started looking for the city’s most important Christmas tree already at the beginning of autumn in order to get acquainted with the suggested trees on site and assess their suitability as a representative Christmas tree in the capital.
The City Centre administration is waiting for Christmas tree suggestions with a photo until October 31 to the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org. There must be no power lines near the tree that would hinder the operation of a crane. The tenderer may be the landowner or his/her representative.
In the last three years, the Christmas tree of the Town Hall Square has been found within the city of Tallinn - 2018 from Kibuvitsa Street, 2019 from Rõika Street and last year from Lõikuse Street.
