The Tallinn Civil Registry Office opened a new accessible marriage hall

The Tallinn Civil Registry Office opened a new accessible marriage hall

In the courtyard house of Õnnepalee (Pärnu mnt 67), a new ceremony hall has been completed which ensures convenient access for people with reduced mobility. The renovated venue is open for ceremonies and the first reservations for the summer months have already been made.

According to Deputy Mayor Betina Beškina, the city wants to improve the quality of life of its citizens in every area of life. "Tallinn is constantly evolving and our goal is to make the urban environment even more comfortable and convenient for all citizens, keeping in mind the basic principles of accessibility," said Beškina. "International Accessibility Day was celebrated in May, and I am glad that this month a new ceremony hall was completed that gives people with reduced mobility better access and an opportunity to hold their celebrations. It is also worth noting that on July 1 this year, the Tallinn Vital Statistics Department will turn 95 and it is very positive that the jubilee will be remembered by the creation of such a new opportunity.”

Karin Kask, the head of the Tallinn Vital Statistics Department, also confirmed that it will be much easier for people with reduced mobility to get married in the future. "As there is no elevator in the historical Luther's Art Nouveau villa of the Civil Registry Office, ceremonies with the participation of people with reduced mobility could, until now, only be held in the first floor office of the main building. Now, a great additional option has been created in the courtyard house of the Õnnepalee, where in addition to easier access, an extended service can also be offered - marriage can be combined with a celebratory reception if desired. We hope that the innovation will be well received and widely used," said Kask, indicating that there are more ideas for improving the service in the future as well.

If you wish to use the ceremony hall for a civil marriage ceremony, please notify the Vital Statistics Department by e-mail [email protected] or by phone 6457483.
