Latitude59 set to grow in cooperation with the City of Tallinn

On 16 & 17 May the Creative Hub will once again be hosting Tallinn’s biggest technology and start-up event, Latitude59. One of the many themes of this year’s international conference will be the development potential of Tallinn as the growth centre for the Estonian economy and innovation, which will be debated by panels on 16 May. One of those taking part in the discussions will be Toomas Türk, who champions innovation in the City of Tallinn.

Tallinn is the centre of the Estonian economy and innovation, its growth environment and its engine. However, exponential urbanisation is setting increasingly complex challenges for the city and bringing with it greater requirements in terms of infrastructure, public and business services and job creation. Effective city management must also take the changing impact of the climate and smart use of natural resources into consideration. Urbanisation does present companies with a lot of new opportunities, but in current conditions how can a city be managed more wisely than ever before? The discussions of these and other topics on 16 May will address the following:

  • What opportunities are there for the city to work with technology start-ups?
  • What are the main factors motivating (and obstructing) the adoption of new solutions?
  • How can global experience and research help us even more than it already has?
  • How does greater openness make Tallinn a more attractive living and investment environment?

On the second day of the conference (17 May) there will be a demo day for the STARTERtallinn programme designed for young people during which the 10 best teams from the programme will present their business ideas to a jury of experts. The team which showcases the best idea in the opinion of the jury will be awarded the main prize by the City of Tallinn at the end of the day.

STARTERtallinn is a programme for the development of business ideas which was launched in cooperation between a number of Estonian universities. It is designed for young people from secondary and vocational schools, colleges and universities.

Latitude59 is the leading event for the start-up community, bringing more than 3000 specialists from the field and hundreds of companies together in Tallinn. It is taking place this year for the seventh time. The City of Tallinn is the major sponsor of the international technology and start-up conference for the second year running.
