The Christmas Market on the Town Hall Square has been fascinating the guests and citizens of Tallinn for many years. The grand opening of the Christmas market took place on Friday, November 20, at 16.55, when organizer Diana Harusoo and Tallinn City Centre Deputy Mayor Alar Nääme gave a speech.
Traditionally, Christmas market has a great variety of gifts
and sweets for sale. The main focus is on Estonian handicraft
and foodstuff. Gurmeekiosk (Gourmet stall) will be opened for
the first time, where best Estonian novelty products are being
sold (ciders, raw snacks, hummus, handmade sweets, etc.). Most
of them are organic products. It is also possible to eat there.
Well known Christmas dishes will be served - sauerkraut, blood
sausages and mulled wine, in addition to novelties such as
mulled cider or mulled cider made of plums.
In addition to tasting experiences, the Christmas market offers
entertainment. Roughly 1700 singers and dancers will take the
stage on the Town Hall Square. ETA Dance School, JJ Street
Dance Studio and many others, including folk-dance groups and
societies. There is a special program for the New Year's
Eve, where the bands Würffel and La La Ladies perform among
During the first Advent on 29th of November, 14.10, Jaan
Tammsalu, provost of the Estonian Lutherian Church, and Taavi
Aas, deputy mayor of Tallinn, will give their best wishes for
the wintertime. Advent candle will be lit. Children's
favourites - reindeers and Santa Clause - will also arrive at
the Town Hall Square at the time. The reindeer family has happy
news again this year: a new reindeer girl was born in the
spring! Santa Clause will take a place in his office and waits
for children every day between 12-19.
This year's Christmas market will be opened from 20th November
2015 to 8th January 2016, every day at 10-19.
