On 28 October, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas and a member of the board of Enterprise Estonia Sigrid Harjo opened a representative office in New York to promote exports; it is going to be headed by James S. York, who is closely associated with Estonia. New York City's Commissioner for International Affairs Penny Abeywardena gave a welcoming speech during the opening event, the Estonian business delegation and local business contacts participated in the event as well.
According to Prime Minister Jüri
Ratas, exports are the backbone of the Estonian
economy. “The foreign representative offices of Enterprise
Estonia are constantly doing a great deal of excellent work to
increase Estonian exports. The goal of the New York office is
to increase the export opportunities of Estonian entrepreneurs
on the East Coast of the United States and, of course, to
strengthen economic ties with the United States. Providing new
opportunities for Estonian entrepreneurs is an important
priority for the government.”
“I have already mediated many contacts and brought the right
people together with Estonian companies, and I am aware that
many transactions are almost completed. My contacts are public
and the door is open,” encouraged York all companies who are
interested in the US market to contact him.
