Mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kõlvart met with Mayor of Seoul

Mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kõlvart visited Seoul on the invitation of its Mayor Park Won-soon. The mayors had a meeting on 30 September. Mr Kõlvart will attend the roundtable of mayors that begins on Tuesday as part of the Smart Cities Summit in Seoul where he is one of the keynote speakers at the opening panel of the conference.

At Monday’s meeting the Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon showed Mr Kõlvart the Digital Mayor’s Office of Seoul where the Mayor and other city executives have a live feed of everything what is going on in the city.

“Like Seoul, Tallinn has invested a lot in e-services and we have access to similar data and provide even more services. However, in our city, data is not presented in such a compact, centralised and openly accessible manner like in Seoul. I believe we should act quickly in this regard,” noted Mr Kõlvart based on what he had seen in the South Korean capital.

Mr Won-soon complimented the Mayor of Tallinn for attending such an important forum for Seoul and contributing to the development of relations between the two cities. The Mayor of Seoul bestowed the title ‘Honorary Citizen of Seoul’ upon Mr Kõlvart.
Mr Won-soon visited Tallinn last October to learn about our country’s e-solutions and the city’s e-services as well as opportunities for cooperation, especially in areas like digitalisation, smart cities, e-governance, innovative cybersecurity solutions and the like. Now the Mayor of Tallinn has the opportunity to do the same in Seoul and present Tallinn’s achievements in the field of IT to a wider audience.

The Mayor’s four-day visit to Seoul includes two conference days and high-level meetings with the Mayor of Seoul and the Speaker of the Korean Parliament as well as learning about the urban development projects of Seoul like remodelling of outdated urban spaces, novel transport solutions, circular economy, etc.

Mr Kõlvart will be back in Tallinn on Friday evening. During the Mayor’s foreign visit, he will be substituted by Deputy Mayor Kalle Klandorf.
