Mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kõlvart to attend the European Union capital city mayors’ summit in London

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan will be hosting the eighth summit of the mayors of EU capital cities on 24 and 25 June.

The main agenda items include the role of cities in designing urban policy in Europe given the appointment of new members of the European Commission so as to send a clear message that the cities want to be involved in the development of European policies and regulations as equal partners of the European Commission and the Member States, and to discuss how the European Urban Agenda adopted in Amsterdam in 2016 has served its purpose.

Other important topics to be addressed at the meeting include the cities’ contribution to tackling climate change, the increasing concern over the rise of violent extremism in Europe, and last but not least, the future of cooperation between European and British cities in view of the uncertainty caused by Brexit.
The summit brings together nearly all EU capital cities with mayors from 15 capitals to attend the meeting, according to latest data.
