The seeing off of the old year and the receiving of the New Year on Freedom Square that has already become a tradition will be memorable and full of surprises. Aside from fireworks and video mapping, the night will offer plenty of emotions by the participants, including the season winners of the TV show Eesti Otsib Superstaari (Estonia Is Looking for a Superstar).
The Tallinn City Elder Alar Nääme believes that New Year's Eve celebration in the city's central square in the company of friends listening to good music and enjoying the fireworks has become a long awaited and cheerful celebration. “The tradition of New Year's Eve celebrations on Freedom Square continues and from year to year, obtains ever more interesting nuances. This year, for example, video mapping will give an additional effect and breathe new life into the event,” added Nääme.
The evening begins at Freedom Square at 22:45, the MC will be Erkki Sarapuu. The well-known radio and TV show presenter plays music and introduces briefly the forthcoming evening.
An hour before midnight, the winners and participants of the TV show Eesti Otsib Superstaari, with Ott Lepland, Liis Lemsalu, Gertu Pabbo and Karl-Erik Taukar, who have successfully reached stardom with the show, will host an almost one hour-long concert that will bring to the audience the best tracks from the artists throughout the ages.
The concert of superstars is followed by a video-mapping that starts just before midnight, during which a pompous video installation will be projected on the house at Freedom Square 10. The author of the idea and one of the executors of the mapping is sculptor Elo Liiv well known with the residents of Tallinn.
New Year arrives with fireworks, which will last for 10 minutes and 10 seconds. The shooting area of the fireworks is Harju hill, and according to the artistic director of Hansa Fireworks and the design pyrotechnician Sami Tammi, it has been built upon the “WOW” effect. Tammi added that what makes the firework display unique is the fact that the best technology is used, and the work is carried out by pyrotechnicians with very great experience. This alone will ensure the audience an enjoyable light show. “We will create between different spectacles the so-called intermediate-finals of large firework bombs. We will shoot into the skies 6348 shots which will open up in the sky into different effects. We will offer Talliners a world-class turn of the year show," said Tammi. This past year, Tammi has organized spectacular firework spectacles in Hanover and Berlin, Germany, and in Macau.
It is estimated that nearly 10,000 people will visit the New Year's Eve celebration on Freedom Square. During the event, public order will be ensured by security company OÜ Meeskond Security. For security reasons, please leave pyrotechnics and glass containers at home when coming to Freedom Square, because in the crowd and in the festive mood, they can be dangerous for both the owner and for other people!
