Director Christopher Nolan has ten days to shoot his movie on Laagna tee starting from 10 July at the earliest.
“We are aware that the movie makers are looking for alternatives to film elsewhere around Tallinn to mitigate potential traffic restrictions at Laagna tee,” explained the Mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kõlvart. “What we can offer them is a period of up to ten days for filming in the Laagna canal with temporary suspensions of traffic based on a fixed schedule.”
“We see that during our meetings the representatives of Warner Bros. have understood that their original plan to completely close Laagna tee for four weeks is not feasible, and we hope that they are willing to accept the conditions offered by the city,” said the Mayor.
According to him, the Laagna canal must remain open for traffic on Mondays and Tuesdays during the filming period, and the bridges across the canal must remain open at all times save for short closures of a few minutes to allow helicopters to fly over safely. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays the road will remain open for centre-bound traffic during the morning rush hour and for Lasnamäe-bound traffic during the evening rush hour. Diverting traffic for longer periods will be possible only on weekends. Vehicles of emergency services must be provided clear passage throughout the filming period.
The city and the movie company have reached an understanding on the traffic closure at Pärnu maantee on 29-30 June as it will remain open for public transport during daytime subject to temporary suspensions. Plus, car traffic at the intersection of Liivalaia tänav and Pärnu maantee may be suspended only temporarily.
