Today, May 5th marks the beginning of reconstruction works conducted in the Botanical Garden’s alpinarium. The works will improve the facility and the collection of mountain plants will thus have better growing conditions.
According to Tallinn's Deputy Mayor Kalle Klandorf, extensive construction works will be taking place in the Botanic Garden this year. "The construction of the palm house started already in March, now we can also begin with the reconstructing the alpinarium. The construction works on both sites will be completed by the end of the year, " noted Klandorf. "During the construction works of the alpinarium, the plant growing areas and limestone walls will be renewed, the pond reconstructed, new sidewalks and stairs built."
Benches will also be installed for the visitors of the alpinarium, and wooden-covered seatings will be built on some sections of the retaining walls. The project documentation for the reconstruction of the venue was prepared by OÜ Kivisilla and the construction works are performed by AS Terrat. The cost of the works is close to 658,000 euros.
According to the Deputy Mayor, the construction of a new administration building and the design works of the new composting field will also start this year.
Cleaning of the outdoor ponds of the Botanic Garden together with reconstructing the water-system has also begun. The growing areas of rhododendrons and heathers will be increased by 50% and the collection of willows also expanded.
