The Christmas Market on the Town Hall Square has been fascinating the guests and citizens of Tallinn for many years. The grand opening of the Christmas market took place on Friday, November 20, at 16.55, when organizer Diana Harusoo and Tallinn City Centre Deputy Mayor Alar Nääme gave a speech.
Traditionally, Christmas market has a great variety of gifts and sweets for sale. The main focus is on Estonian handicraft and foodstuff. Gurmeekiosk (Gourmet stall) will be opened for the first time, where best Estonian novelty products are being sold (ciders, raw snacks, hummus, handmade sweets, etc.). Most of them are organic products. It is also possible to eat there. Well known Christmas dishes will be served - sauerkraut, blood sausages and mulled wine, in addition to novelties such as mulled cider or mulled cider made of plums.
In addition to tasting experiences, the Christmas market offers entertainment. Roughly 1700 singers and dancers will take the stage on the Town Hall Square. ETA Dance School, JJ Street Dance Studio and many others, including folk-dance groups and societies. There is a special program for the New Year's Eve, where the bands Würffel and La La Ladies perform among others.
During the first Advent on 29th of November, 14.10, Jaan Tammsalu, provost of the Estonian Lutherian Church, and Taavi Aas, deputy mayor of Tallinn, will give their best wishes for the wintertime. Advent candle will be lit. Children's favourites - reindeers and Santa Clause - will also arrive at the Town Hall Square at the time. The reindeer family has happy news again this year: a new reindeer girl was born in the spring! Santa Clause will take a place in his office and waits for children every day between 12-19.
This year's Christmas market will be opened from 20th November 2015 to 8th January 2016, every day at 10-19.
