Tallinn aspires to become the city with the world’s best living environment

Tallinn wants to become the city with the world’s best living environment. As of today, everyone can have a say in it!

‘We are used to comparing ourselves with Helsinki, and as Helsinki already is one of the cities with the world’s best living environments, then, in fact, we are already comparing ourselves with the best in the world,’ said Toomas Haidak, the head of the city’s strategy unit. ‘Therefore, it is not a surreal ambition, but a tangible reality that we have to define for ourselves. To do this, we invite everybody to reflect with us.’

The Tallinn City Government launched an idea competition on its website to give everyone the opportunity to contribute to the planning of the future of Tallinn. The idea competition is open on 1–31 October 2018. All those who care about the future of Tallinn in one way or another are invited to participate. A web environment has been opened for the idea competition – https://www.tallinn.ee/strateegia/ideekorje – as well as a Facebook group – ‘Tallinna arengukava 2021+’.

Tallinn will create a development plan 2021+ with its residents. During the preparation of the new development plan, the currently valid city strategy 2030 will be reviewed and new possible targets will be sought and discussed, which will set the city’s main goals in the long and short term. To raise awareness about the direction in which our city is currently moving and what our priorities and ambitions are, stakeholders and the general public are involved so that everyone could contribute to goal-setting and understanding.

More information about the preparation of the development plan can be found on this website: https://www.tallinn.ee/strateegia/.
