The Police and Border Guard Orchestra and Metsatöll give a free concert on Vabaduse väljak

Today at 6 pm, the Minister of the Interior Kristian Jaani and the Mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kõlvart sign a co-operation agreement on Vabaduse väljak, according to which the Police and Border Guard Orchestra will continue as the Tallinn Police Orchestra as of 2022. The signature ceremony is followed by a free concert of the Tallinn Police Orchestra and the rock band Metsatöll.

As of January 1st, 2022, The Estonian Police and Border Guard Orchestra will continue as the Tallinn Police Orchestra, and all 34 members of the orchestra will remain enrolled.

According to the Minister of the Interior Kristian Jaani, it is important to maintain the continuity and traditions of the professional wind orchestra. "It is an important symbol for Estonia as a country, but especially for the field of the Ministry of the Interior, which has always aimed to create a sense of unity. Therefore, it is especially significant that the name of the orchestra will henceforth include the name of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia and the largest local government, as well as a reference to the police. It also has a connection with the predecessor of the current orchestra, the Tallinn Police Officers' Association Wind Orchestra," said Jaani.

According to Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart, the police orchestra with historical heritage dating back to 1928, is a value, symbol and cultural resource that will become an important part of Tallinn from next year. “Carrying the name of Tallinn Police Orchestra, the band will continue to create celebratory and uplifting moments on national holidays that carry a symbolic value for the Estonian Republic. Moreover, as Tallinn is a candidate for the City of Music of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, the local music life is only enriched by such a unique music ensemble,” Kõlvart noted. "All citizens and music admirers have the opportunity to enjoy the performance of the professional orchestra on Vabaduse väljak this Friday, where a free concert with the rock band Metsatöll will be given."

To attend the concert, proof of vaccination, proof of COVID-19 recovery, or a negative test result must be provided.
