For most Estonian entrepreneurs, the Estonian market is too small to make business thrive. However, expanding abroad - either in terms of merger and acquisition, production, or simply export - faces considerable legal challenges, ranging from tax-, employment - or company law to general aspects of international trade and international private law. This workshop intends to provide a general guideline on legal aspects to be taken into account in the European Union legal space, illustrated by practical examples from doing business in Germany, the EU largest economy
Thomas Hoffmann is since 2016 Associate Professor for Private Law at Tallinn Law School at Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia. He absolved his law studies at the University of Heidelberg, where he also obtained his Ph.D. (2006). After his admission to the German bar in 2009, he worked as an associated lawyer in the real estate department of an international law firm in their offices in Kiev and Berlin. In 2011, he relocated to the University of Tartu to be appointed DAAD Lecturer in Law (until 2016). Thomas’ research focuses not only on intellectual property law, but also comparative private law, here especially contracts in digital environments and consumer law. Thomas keeps track with forensic legal issues by serving as Of Counsel for the firm bnt Attorneys-at-Law in Tallinn.
