Introduction to the basic stages of English literature from the Middle Ages to the middle of the 19th century. The material is given chronologically with historical background.
The Middle Ages: The dawn of English literature. The Anglo-Saxon period. Pre-Renaissance. Geoffrey Chaucer. The most prominent authors and works of the Elizabethan Age (the Renaissance, W. Shakespeare), the 17th and 18th centuries. The Enlightenment (Daniel Defoe, Jonathan Swift). The Romantic Age (Lord Byron, Jane Austen).
Reading extracts from the works of the authors studied during the course.
The mark is given based on completed tasks covering the material studied during the course.
