A lane closed on Tartu maantee on the Tallinn city border for street lighting works

Due to the construction of street lighting, one lane will be closed on the Tartu maantee between Tallinn Airport and the city border from May 14 to June 4. The sidewalk by Lake Ülemiste of the same section will be closed due to works until May 14.

The outbound driving lane of the Tartu maantee is closed from May 14 to 23 and the inbound lane will be closed from May 24 until the end of the working day on June 4.

At least two lanes are open in both directions during peak hours and the time reconstruction works are on hold. At least one lane will remain open to traffic on the side of the road where the construction work is taking place and at least two lanes on the other side of the road.

On the street section, the outdated sodium luminaires will be replaced by new LED luminaires. Over the next decade, Tallinn plans to replace all sodium luminaires on the streets with more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly LED luminaires. It is estimated that each luminaire upgrade provides energy savings of approximately 570 kilowatt-hours per year.

As of last year, there were approximately 64,000 street luminaires in Tallinn, of which 14,000 were LED luminaires. Improving the sustainability and quality of street lighting will help increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Energy savings from street lighting and buildings owned by the city as well as the use of green electricity have helped to significantly reduce Tallinn’s CO2 emissions in recent years.

The low-masted street lights near the Tallinn Airport are being reconstructed by Leonhard Weiss OÜ on the order of the Tallinn Environmental and Public Utilities Department.

The street segment in question is marked in brown on the map. More detailed traffic schemes are available on the website: https://opinfo.tallinn.ee/menetlus/67056
