At the international technology and start-up conference Latitude59, taking place in Tallinn from today, Tallinn showcases itself as a green global city characterised by sustainable, eco-friendly and balanced development.

According to Tallinn Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm, the city is showcasing its key objectives for the coming years: reducing its carbon footprint, ensuring biodiversity and sustainable governance. "Latitude59 brings together start-ups as well as long-standing companies with the public sector. These very different organisations need to work together even more in an increasingly digital world, and in urban governance we are also testing new approaches and solutions in partnership with businesses. Digital technologies are helping the public sector to do its job better and provide better services to the public, while saving natural resources," said Vimm.

The most important technology and start-up conference in the Baltics Latitude59, taking place in Tallinn Creative Hub on 19-20 May, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. In total, the conference is expected to attract more than 2,500 attendees, including over 300 investors, over 700 start-ups and a number of key industry influencers. The main topics of the conference are diversity, sustainability, social impact, the application of science in business and collaboration with large companies.

As part of the conference programme, Tallinn's business environment and green and technology initiatives are showcased in the Tallinn stand, where experts from the city staff present services for both local and international start-ups in connection with Tallinn's objectives as European Green Capital 2023. Sustainability is the overarching theme of the Tallinn stand.

On 19 and 20 May, from 12 noon to 1pm and 2 pm to 3 pm, presenters are Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm, Enterprise Director Mart Luik,  IT Director Martin Männil, Head of Enterprise Centre Jaanus Vahesalu, Head of Future City Bureau Toomas Türk, Head of Green Transition Centre Liis Vahter, Deputy Head of Urban Environment and Public Works Department Tarmo Sulg, Head of Urban Planning Department Ivari Rannama, Head of Health and Social Welfare Department Raimo Saadi, Head of City Property Department Hardi Alliksaar, Head of the General Unit of the Education Department Rainer Rannala, Traffic Expert of Transport Department Grigori Parfjonov, and Head of Communication for European Green Capital 2023 Kaidi Aher.

As a sea-side capital, Tallinn has set itself the goal of being an internationally renowned green global city by 2035, where future-facing people value their heritage. As the European Green Capital 2023, Tallinn aims to be the leader of the green transition in Estonia, as the city's economy and way of life affect the well-being of the entire population.
